The proceeds from the Good Old Days festival benefit the Lawrence "Bud" Kern Memorial Trust Fund.

This fund was established in 1979 to recognize graduating high school students from Somers Point who have demonstrated community spirit and pride and through their involvement in civic and scholastic activities have displayed a singular dedication to purpose.

Recipients are chosen annually and receive scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $3,000.  The memorial fund honors Lawrence "Bud" Kern, former Recreation Commission Chairperson and Little League President.  Bud was instrumental in the development of recreation facilities and programs within Somers Point.  He expanded countless volunteer hours in service to his community.  It was his idea to have an end-of-summer community picnic, which gave rise to this event.

Through supporting and recognizing high school students who reflect the qualities that made Bud Kern such a special individual, we hope in some small way to perpetuate his spirit.
